Art Museum Schools: The Rise and Decline of a New Institution in Nineteenth-Century America.

Professional art schools and fine art museums combined m form a new American institution during the nineteenth century. Justification for these dual institutions changed around the turn of the century and as the movement declined units tended to separate; nevertheless, several of these school-museum combinations remain in existence today.
