Merle Eugene Curti.

Merle Curti (1897-1996) was a prolific and popular historian, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, and a pioneer in American intellectual history. A student of Frederick Jackson Turner and Arthur Schlesinger, Sr., at Harvard, Curti spent a lifetime as a productive scholar, an active professional, and a public intellectual.
