Alan Edward Heimert.

Alan Edward Heimert (1928-99) was Powell M. Cabot Professor of American Literature at Harvard University, where he began to teach in 1961. During his tenure he served on a number of committees. Many remember him as Master of Eliot House from 1968 until 1991. Heimert published a number of essays and two important anthologies. His major scholarly work was 'Religion and the American Mind, from the Great Awakening to the Revolution' (1966). In 1986 he was elected a member of the American Antiquarian Society.
