Edward Carlos Carter II.

Presents an obituary for Edward Carlos Carter II (1928-2002). Carter graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1954 and received a Ph.D. in modern European history from Bryn Mawr College in 1962. He taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Phillips Academy Andover, the University of Delaware, St. Stephen's School in Rome, Catholic University, and Johns Hopkins University. Carter oversaw the serial publication of 'The Papers of Benjamin Henry Latrobe' (1977-86). In 1980 he became librarian of the American Philosophical Society. He served on the boards and advisory councils of many organizations and institutions. He was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 1983 and the American Antiquarian Society in 1987.
