Presents an obituary for Kathryn "Kitty" Preyer (1925-2005), who received her Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin in 1959 and pursued a career in legal history. She taught briefly at Rockville College and then at Wellesley College from 1955 until 1990. At Wellesley she chaired the history department from 1971 to 1973. She belonged to the Massachusetts Historical Society and was the first woman named to its governing council and, as vice president from 1980 to 1995, was the first woman to preside over one of its general meetings. She was an active member of the advisory board of the Documentary History of the Supreme Court of the United States and was involved in the American Society of Legal History.
