Into the Unknown in 1955-Aas and Readex.

In 1955 the American Antiquarian Society and Readex Microprint Corporation entered into an agreement to cosponsor a facsimile edition in microprint of extant American imprints published from 1640 to 1800 based on Charles Evans's 'American Bibliography.' The first set of cards was shipped to subscribing libraries in 1956, though it met with complaints about image quality. By 1968 the first series of 'Early American Imprints' was completed and work continued on the second series, which covered imprints issued from 1801 through 1820 based on the bibliography compiled by Ralph Shaw and Richard Shoemaker.
