Troubled in Mind: The Education of a Historian.

Leon Litwack presented the second annual Robert U. Baron Lecture, a reflection on a seminal scholarly work by a member of the American Antiquarian Society. Rather than review the historiography of black emancipation since the publication of Been in the Storm So Long (1979). Litwack described how he came to write it, how and why he committed himself to the writing and teaching of African American history, and the influences that shaped that commitment more than half a century ago.
