Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. (1917-2007) was a giant among 20th-century historians and political scientists. He was a respected authority on Jacksonian America and the presidency of John F. Kennedy, among other significant American subjects. He served as a special adviser to Kennedy and President Lyndon Johnson before returning to teaching. He followed his father as a member of the American Antiquarian Society, elected in 2000 despite his focus on the 20th century.
