Winthrop D. Jordan.

Winthrop Jordan (1931-2007) was a pioneer in the field of African American studies. His 'White over Black: American Attitudes toward the Negro, 1550-1812' (1968) illuminated the racial dynamic in the United States and remains required reading to this day. As a scholar and teacher, he guided many younger researchers in the field.
