Rudy Favretti died April 13, 2023. Professor of landscape architecture at the University of Connecticut from 1955 until 1989, he was among the foremost scholars of landscape design history and the preservation of historic gardens. Beyond his academic scholarship, Favretti restored historic gardens throughout the United States and Europe, including at Monticello and Mount Vernon, and in 1982 he received an Honor Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Favretti held a Fred Harris Daniels Fellowship at AAS in 1978-79, for his project “Landscaping Use of Trees in New England.”
