Report of the Council.

The article presents information regarding the American Antiquarian Society. It reports that the library is in need of additional space and bookshelves, as well as needing to have the interior painted. The Society has published the book "History and Bibliography of American Newspapers, 1690-1820" in two volumes. The society found that two portraits in its collection are questionable, a portrait of U.S. President George Washington by Thomas Sully was found to be a forgery while a portrait of first lady Martha Washington has questionable provenance. The article also notes the death of several members of the society in 1947 including philanthropist Horace A. Moses, book collector William M. Elkins, and historian Evarts B. Greene.
