Continued from a previous article (see entry 8:1191). An earlier listing treated the period 1705-39. This portion of the calendar lists 1,150 entries of hitherto-unknown American poetry published in colonial newspapers and periodicals and in the main English magazines, 1740-59. Includes for each poem the date and place of publication, first line, title, number of lines, author, and a note on reprints or information about the author. Poems published in English magazines but considered American and therefore included were those with American subject matter, those dated from North America or the West Indies, those with pseudonyms suggesting American authorship, and those with known American authorship.
