When Henri and Clementine Wehrmann arrived in New Orleans from Paris in 1849, she was already a skilled engraver and he was a printer and lithographer. Together over the next fifty years, they engraved an estimated 8,000 pieces of sheet music. The sheet music, the artists represented, and the subjects of their illustrations represent the high point of the New Orleans music publishing industry.
